Agreed. Also going on the premise it went to a “collector” first and an ad on eBay didn’t pop up first.

It was meant to be flipped, unfortunately. If you land a 1 of 20 product and you don't have the proper means of protecting it and doing it justice out the box, it's a hot potato you want to move while you watch the market value spike.

Sure enough, it can be a justified acquisition for an obsessive collector, but Oakley's agenda was not to do any kind of fan service, and not even maximize a profit.

Barring any production issues (like the molds really don't last or something), they could've made more net gain with more volume. Around the world, there would surely be more than a thousand people willing to buy at $500. Surely would draw in the same flippers and hypedweebs completely new to this too. But that they didn't. You have to see though what is, no offense, utter bulls*** in fabricating "hype".

And in that sense, as a genuine fan of Oakley, you kinda are more in the right to be offended as f*** by this tease. It's just...bait. Unfortunately in the form of an OTT.
