Sales tax on pre-owned items from eBay ?

Bought a frame listed as “ pre-owned “ on eBay and was charged 6% sales tax at checkout.

This is something new and totally unexpected.

I’ve bought lots of pre-owned items and had never been subject to tax on any of them until today.

Wondering if anyone else has experienced this ?

If the seller is in the same state as you than Ebay charges taxes I think

New Jersey gets eBay sales tax no matter where you buy it from. Started a month or so ago for me.

Seller was from NJ, which doesn’t make sense.

Bought a used frame on June 29th from eBay ... no tax applied.

Will have to check with our local representative tomorrow. Something new as of July 1st ?

On a “ new “ item I could understand, but also on “ pre-owned “ too ?

B.S., just like how the state infinitely imposes sales tax on a used vehicle several times over it’s life span.
