This is one of those projects that has been on the back burner for about six years, ever since I was blown away by a pair made by @qtrain23

A few years later I was asked to work on another pair cut from an A Frame lens.

This is my donor lens. A Splice VR50 Pink Iridium snow goggle lens. And the template is a Zero 0.2 brand new old stock lens.

First thing to do is remove the incredibly bad quality inner lens. It really is like looking through a sweet wrapper. 🤔🤔🤔

Soon as the double glazing is removed the lens is totally amazing just like any Oakley sunglasses lens.

Carefully make a first incision into the thicker foam on the bottom corner of the lens

Then just peel back taking care not to scratch the front of lens with your fingers. It takes a bit of oomph to get it going then the rest comes off really easy.

After you’ve chucked the inner lens in the trash!! 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣

The next thing is - Tape!

I use Frog Tape for delicate surfaces, which is about £5 a roll but it’s the only stuff that is easily available and really any other cheaper stuff will just remove the Iridium. I’d still recommend testing your tape on a small area because sometimes the Iridium can lift with even the best tape. It’s pretty unusual but you never know what an old donor lens has been through. New lenses are almost always safe with Frog Tape.

Decided to just remove the bottom corners of the foam

It allows enough room for the template lens to fit within the top foam so the tape folds easily around it.

It’s gonna be cut off soon.

I usually trim off the excess tape before tracing out the lens shape to ensure it’s centrally positioned on the donor lens.

As soon as you’ve traced out the shape you’re ready for the exciting bit!

You can just start grinding away but on a goggle lens it makes sense to cut the large parts off with a blade.
