Do Oakley Matte frames peel after a certain amount of time?

Morning y’all,

I have a pair of glasses on the way that were on my grail list (X Ten) and they have the matte frame. Everything about them looks great with the exception of one little spot and the seller couldn’t tell me what it is. It only appears in one picture, so I don’t know it it is peeling or something else. My question is do the matte frames especially the older ones peel or come apart after time, and if they do what color is under the matte black?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thats a common issue with Matte Black frames.

Well darn, I had no idea. I have a pair of older Gascans that have been through some stuff and never have I seen peeling. Is there any way to stop it from happening more? Are Oakley frames really a gray color under the Matter finish?

Well, everyone's sweat is different and more or less aggressive to Rubber or Paint.
All the frames I've stripped of paint so far have been shiny black but had a base / primer coat that looks grey.

Good to know. Thank you so much for the information.

I got several matte blacks, never worn and i do not see any peeling.

What i think your photos show are marks from damage, these have been used, right?

Correct they were used. They said they were in 99% condition. What is throwing me off is in two of the pictures I can’t see what is in the last picture with the sku. Guess I’m just gonna have to wait till they show up until I can find out what it is on them.

That being said, I have a pair of Gascan SI’s that have been through it all. Unfortunately they have been dropped and all sorts of stuff over the years, been in salt water, been around sunscreen and heavy sweat. They haven’t peeled but they are super shiny now in the ear area.
