I just wanted to pop in and thank the Doctor in the house. @docrusty, Russ… thank you brother for the peel and wear advice. Delamination is no longer my nightmare. Took my XX emeralds that looked like fish scales inside :mad-35: packing tape and numerous blots and that f matter is no longer a problem. The difference is ZERO. So why even put that on? Maybe some optics OBros (sorry Ogender neutral :punish:)out there could explain the purpose.

But now I no longer fear the loss of my very special carbon R2 Emerald Slate beauties.

There is an Oakley God and yes he thinks he’s a doctor 🙏🏼

I'm assuming your delamination is from the back of the lens right?

The stuff that comes off when lenses delam is a clear hardcoat of sorts to prevent scratches and swirl marks.

Sure, the lenses do look normal once you have peeled of the residue, but it has its own downsides as well. For one, after you peel off the delam, the exposed part of the lens is *extremely* vulnerable to scratches. You'd need to be very, very gentle in wiping the lens else it'll accumulate swirl marks like crazy.

Again, as has been my experience with multiple lenses, the process starts with the backside of the lens but the front eventually does get forked up sooner or later. Always advisable to start hunting for replacement lenses as soon as you see the earliest signs of delam.

Showing this in context. 1st one is a Revant Elite. The AR coating didnt come off uniformly. But the lens surface got some nasty cleaning streaks after a few times of cleaning which started affecting vision and I had to let go off these lenses.

2nd one is a recently 'peeled' Prizm Daily Polar which I have taken utmost care, wiping gently with a very soft microfiber cloth. There are still some cleaning streaks to be seen.
