New Double Tap Watch

Yeah parent company make great stuff and trash that's just the way it is now days. Everybody is owned by someone else volkswagon owns Porsche Bentley Audi Lamborghini and others

Ronda Group (aforementioned major supplier of Swiss quartz movements) is still an independent, family-owned company...

Anyone see the new bezels for the killswitch?

You meant this? I hope I can get one

Tag/Tissot and many others that carry the swiss branding use the same Ronda (insert any number of swiss brands) movements Oakley does. Until you start discussing Omega, Breitling, Rolex etc, they are all pretty much the same.. Talking quartz movements. Autos it is a big variable. No need to even begin discussing complex movements.. I have a few oakley watches and a couple Tissot t-race/motogp watches that I wear daily but will one day own a nice superocean, seamaster or something along those lines.
TAG bashing has gotten old and isn't really appropriate any more.

You know what that is? That's a mechanical chronograph capable of measuring to 1/2000th precision. Practical? No. Done because they thought they could? Yep. A feat of haute horlogerie? Definitely. And with enough cash, something you could actually buy and only one of a series of high end pieces from TAG Heuer over the last ten years or so.

Wasn't bashing Tag. There are some very nice watches they make.. but, like I said, when it comes to quartz, they are dime a dozen. I tried a few very nice/limited Tags in vegas and no doubt they are nice, it's all about the movement and Tag isn't held in a regard they used to be. There are very few watch companies sticking to the old mentality. Like I said, I have a couple daily Tissot watches I would say are comparable to the quartz watches Tag makes, but the watch you pictured is in a different ballpark of watch. Nothing on the level of watches I was referring to that compare to oakley watches. I am still learning about mid to upper end watches and it will be a while before I pull the trigger on one. A watch that will appreciate in price and be a nice legacy piece for my kids. I cringe at the thoughts of a standard service cost!

My point is this is a little out of date, they are doing more in house now than they did five years ago. They copped some flak for buying a design for one of them in from Seiko, but actually that's no bad thing - Seiko is one of the few vertically integrated watch companies around, most everyone else buys stuff in from specialists, it's just how the industry works. Think the auto industry buying in electrics and so on from the likes of Bosch. The watch cos go a step further and buy in some of their "engines" but many of the mid-tiers are moving away from that increasingly. More so in the mechanical movements than the quartz ones - most of these companies want to be judged on their mechanicals and that's where the development goes, and quartzes are bought in because they need something to sell to that large group who have become accustomed to only paying quartz prices for a watch.

All that said, I still think them dropping the Cal 1969 integrated chronograph movement was a mistake, they had some very pretty prototypes of that. I like a classical 3-6-9 3 register chronograph and dislike the 6-9-12 layout that's become so prevalent because of the ubiquity of the Vj7750.

As and when you trade up, I definitely recommend going mechanical. Ironically they are less accurate than even a fairly basic quartz but there's something alluring about wearing these little machines on your wrist. Still, finding one that will appreciate will take a ton of research and, even then, a helping of luck on top.
