Using old prescription

Hello everyone,

I’m not trying to solicit medical advice, but any experts or optometrists out there that wants to weigh in, I’d appreciate it.

I’ve received various answers over the years and was with the same optometrist for the last 7 or 8 years but he’s about to retire.

What are the thoughts, ideas on using old prescription? My prescription has marginally changed over the past few years, most notably just an astigmatism and slight axis changes. Single vision prescription and can mostly see 20/20 with the correct lighting without my glasses. My optometrist said I could still use my old prescription and actually stated he doesn’t think I need to get new glasses/lenses with my latest prescription.

I’m asking because I want to get another pair and still use my old two pair (same prescription). I use Flak 2.0xl with clear prescription lenses. The price for those lenses is why I’m asking as I’m trying to save costs.

Thanks in advance.

It all depends on whether or not your eye-glasses store will allow you to use an old prescription or not. Some stores will not allow you to use old prescriptions and some will. Probably your best bet would be to get a note written by your eye doctor stating that it's okay for you to use your old prescription as opposed to your new one.
In the end, it all depends on how comfortable you are with your old Rx. in consultation with your optician and eye-doctor.

Thanks, Monkey. That's actually what my initial experience was. I went into Target to inquire about getting lenses, and they stated they didn't have the prescription (I still have it), but said the doctor probably wouldn't let them use the old one to fill the prescription.

I surprised the associate and told him their optometrist was my optometrist, but I just see him at a different location. Since that optometrist is readying himself for retirement by only working one day a week, I'm going to see a new optometrist and get their input before I order any new lenses.

Thanks.
