What should you look out for when buying X-metal Romeo 1’s?

Hi all, was wondering if y’all had any tips on what to look out for when buying x-metal Romeo 1’s. What are the main differences between legit R1’s and the fakes? What parts if any usually go bad first? I don’t really care about getting the coin and box, is it realistic to assume that I could purchase one in decent shape for under $1,000? Thank you guys.

Read this first. Yes you can buy Oakleys for decent prices here. But do your own research first. Screws are a big giveaway no Phillips only Torx. But fakes are getting harder to distinguish. Hinges on the arms are easy to spot fakes, they usually get that area wrong. Serial number fonts are another give away. Hope this helps.

The identifiable areas have been pointed out by others already but you really have to know what you’re looking for so I wouldn’t hesitate to ask in here before you make a purchase.
Parts that begin to wear or maybe require replacing is likely at this age, unless unworn will be the rubber parts. Firstly the grommets that hold the frame in place around the lenses - top and bottom. These can degrade quite quickly and will leave the frame unable to be properly tightened and will then rub together. Arm and nose rubbers will become loose and likely sticky. These can be obtained from linegear easily if originals aren’t available. Lenses even if not scratched/marked can suffer from delamination (peeling). These can also be obtained from linegear or better still a genuine set can be cut from members here.

I have a pair of plasmas but i remember mine had a stripped screw on one side(the top part holding the orbital). So if you are buying a used one, make sure the screws are not stripped. Someone recommended I take it to a watch maker and he was able to use some small drill bits to remove.
