New Eye Jacket durability?

I'm looking for a pair of Eye Jackets that I plan to wear daily while biking and doing other activities. I don't like the Redux and much prefer the 1.0 design, but I understand the arms of the Gen 1 EJs are very brittle. So, I was wondering how the New Eye Jackets hold up, especially being 25+ years old, and whether they're durable or if I should try to just buy a new release of EJs, although it seems like my options for new ones with the 1.0 design are limited to special editions like the MUZM or Satisfy collabs.

The newer limited/collab releases should be much more durable considering how the O-matter composition has evolved over time.

yeah, I get that the new releases will be more durable, they just seem harder to find and have fewer colorways. I'm specifically wondering about the "New Eye Jackets" aka Eye Jacket 1.0 Gen 2 (I believe from 1999) and whether those have better durability than the Gen 1 (from 1994) if I were to wear them daily

I think you should be fine with NEJ's: just don't expect them to survive a big tumble with you landing on them. They're only made from polycarbonate.

Most O-matter frames from the 2000s era are better suited for collectible / display items. I was eyeing the beautiful white New Frogskins listed in the exchange section but they too are notorious for breaking.

gotcha, maybe I'll just hold out for some more recent pairs then. will keep an eye out for any new releases coming up

That's invariably due to the hinge design. They did have flimsy hinges, including Top Coats, Eye Jackets, Moons, Trenchcoats, Straight Jackets and New Frogskins.

It wasn't just the hinges. The orbitals were prone to breaking too. See the two frogskins here:
