This is a work in progress, if you have any information, please share!
I’ve been searching for information regarding the Oakley collaborations with Pool Aoyama. I didn’t find much, so figured I’d start this thread to try and consolidate information.
“the POOL Aoyama” was a long-term pop-up in a residential area of Tokyo, Japan. It was opened on April 5th, 2014 by Hiroshi Fujiwara, the creator of the “Fragment” brand. The store featured clothing, bags, watches, office supplies, etc with “the POOL Aoyama” livery, along with collaborations with multiple other brands. It closed around June 2016.
Screenshots of “the POOL” legacy site followed by the Google Chrome Translated version:
Fujiwara opened a similar pop-up shop “the PARK-ing Ginza” around March 2016. I haven’t found anything regarding Oakley collaborations with this pop up. “the Park-ing” closed on March 31st, 2017.
Fujiwara then opened “THE CONVENI (GINZA SONY PARK)” around June 7th, 2018. This was, you guessed it, another pop-up shop. You might be noticing a pattern. Again, I’ve found no Oakley collaborations with this brand so far. “THE CONVENI (GINZA SONY PARK)” closed on September 30th, 2020. There were pop-ups in multiple countries of this particular brand.
Now on to the focus of this research. These are the Oakley collaboration pairs I’m aware of:
Frogskins:
1. Buena Vista
Matte Dark Grey with Black Polarized lenses
SKU 24-388
Released April 5th, 2014
Limited to 200 pieces?
To quote @Romeo Van Frogskinstein from this thread: Fragment Design X Oakley “Buena Vista” Frogskins
“Issued with a unique matching grey microbag highlighting the arm logo, and comes with a labelled white box. The frame has a very unusual rough texture like a fine sandpaper. All initial pairs sold out at source…Pool Aoyama on 5th April 2014”
2. “Moss Olive”
Moss? With Green? Lenses
SKU ?
Released October 28th, 2014
“In keeping with Tetsu Nishiyama’s “OLIVE” theme for this season, the frame has been retouched with a rich matted green hue throughout the body and wings. This is offset by a subtle tonal lenses in a pale ‘Moss’ color.”
3. “MELANISM” One
Smoke with Gray? Lenses
SKU ?
Released June 22nd, 2015
Came in a white Custom O box and included a white microbag with the “Pool” branding
4. “MELANISM” Two
Smoke Earstems/Black Front with Gray? Lenses
SKU ?
Released November 16th, 2015
“…takes cues from the POOL aoyama’s black-based “MELANISM” installation, pairing cloudy dual-colored frames with smoky lenses. This time, however, the design reserves the cloudy acetate for the arms alone while the bridge, rims and nose pads come in jet black.”
I haven’t been able to find evidence of any other pairs, so it looks like they’re all Frogskins at this point.
