While that's a common tendency between a hoarder and a collector, I would hardly call it the difference.
A hoarder has persistent difficulty discarding or parting with personal possessions, regardless of their actual value.

You make a good point though. I think I can explain why. Hoarders don't like letting anything go. But if they do, they want to make it "worthwhile" for themselves, so they will only let something go if they get a really good price for it. To them, it has a higher value. They'd prefer to keep it, but if they don't, then at least they want an insanely high "compensation" for their perceived loss.
