Hello everyone. As a collector like everyone here in the forum I have needed to purchased stands for my display case. Little did i know that over time the stands themselves started to scratch my lenses. Yes. That is correct. The OEM Oakley plastic stands will scratch the lenses over time. And right SMACK in the middle of the lens as well. I just found out the hard way. Ruined a pair of Ruby Prizm Ps. I spent some time sCrAtChInG myself / my head... and I created a solution before i ended up in lens purgatory. I added pics below of my solution..
My stands waiting to scratch all my lenses. Look at them salivating.
The close up of the evil stand. Jetfire is ready to attack.
The stand doing its dirty work on my lenses
THE FIX! Pex pipe and a Table saw
Finished product. Double cut notch for the frame (not lens) to rest on.
Lenses no longer touch the stand and no modification was made to the stand itself. No glue or cutting. I used Cotton on the inside of the pipe to keep it nice and snug.
Super closeup view from the front. The frames rest in the notch so they do not slide back to the evil scratchy pointy part of the stands. I may paint them and add a cap for the centers on phase 2.
Thoughts?
