Xezo Mother of Pearl 117/400. $400 worth a lot more now 18k gold plated fountain pen. (2004) and my Visconti Blue Lagoon Volcano Ash Pen 507/888. $999 yes that price is insane. I got it for $100 off and it writes like shít lol. Xezo makes far better pens than Visconti. But it might be an unlucky defected roller ball. I moved away from fountain pens. While they are superior in writing agility, they leak like crazy and require a lot of maintenance. I moved on to roller balls. Another problem there is no replacement for 18k nibs for my MOP. I only use these to write birthday letters or special events.

@Mystiko Neossia another pen collector!

Heh…I went thru a HEAVY fountain pen collecting phase…like 20 years worth. Starting in the late 80s 🖊️😆

I have a couple really nice models I carried in my embassy days (a Waterman Edson Sapphire and a Mont Blanc Boheme Rouge)…but mostly focused on picking up antiques in whatever country I was currently assigned to. Except my two favorites they are all likely in one big ziplock bag or in the attic 😳

I collected antique pocket watches as well 😏

You got good taste. Those look beautiful. I learned that $$$$ pens doesn't always mean they write the best. Cross made some liquid smooth pens I have yet to find a competitor other than Xezo. I do love how fountain pens look, but I can't tell you how many times I had to wipe excess ink off my hands.

Heh…thanks. I almost had a heart attack when I looked this AM to see their current valve 😳

…and agreed. Both of these write (or wrote 😏) beautifully. As anyone who writes with a fountain pen knows….in this (and even 20 plus years ago) day and age they are impractical. If you don’t write frequently they dry up and you have to clean and flush em and start fresh. They sit for any length and time and they dry up. But they are a thing of beauty and classic elegance…IMHO.

I’ve got myriad foreign and military pens…and mechanical pencils. Were fun to collect and probably worth something…some day I’ll drag out the box or ziplock or whatever.

This Soviet era mechanical pencil came from Moscow…got it in a flea market when I was stationed at the U.S. Embassy between 2000-2002.

Beautiful pens! Love that MOP Xezo!!
I don’t remember which Visconti I was looking at recently but it was also a rollerball; I didn’t like how it wrote at all.
I’ve been finding out for myself, the maintenance and general upkeep with the FP’s is that they are almost therapeutic. Still somehow more affordable than therapy lol

Beautiful pens!! The Boheme is one (no specific color) that is on my list to pick up!

It’s was a delight to write with…probably still is but in retirement my requirement to sign things is less and less as the years go by.

The retracting nib was always fun…and it was so much smaller than most it made for a great work pen.

The rouge I always assumed was due to the red stone…garnet is my birthstone and deep red always my favor color so it was a win win.
