Air Jordan 1 — Black/Gym Red/White/Sail
Not exactly a dream shoe, but it was the only one I remotely liked that I actually had a chance to get. Full intent to just use them as near-beaters.
A little weird to me that Nike knows well how quick highs sell in the right colors, but they still price the AJ1 under the rest of the retros. There's proper level and craftsmanship involved, at least when it's not some ridiculous gimmick colorways. Since 1985 this shoe has had a universally agreeable aesthetic. Even looks good in a new way when worn in.
So that also makes me wonder why Nike usually fails to make new designs that can hit the same marks, or try to make another nice leather-based design lately.

Fast forward to today, I got the Jordan 1 that I first wanted. Most of the weight in it is what it represents (to each their own): the start to how the consumer and business world would view basketball shoes on and off the court. It's an epitome of what a signature basketball shoe is. The colors that would cement themselves into a go-to combination for countless basketball shoes ahead.
I did not pay up for the 2016 release because resale prices didn't align in my mind vs. other pairs I was after. The '85 Cut program also gave me more incentive to hold out and expect this colorway to inevitably release.
Still paid up here because this release was garbage, and I was left to make a decision on the current market. I had to have this at some point before I consider going on making other acquisitions, and so far this really does tide me over in a different way.
