You should possibly specify your price range for a beater Mars/Crater.
Yup...good point. I'm thinking in the 400.00-ish range. No lenses needed...as long as the frame is in good shape. Also open to separate parts as well. Thanks for the comment 🪖👍

I thought you revised your financial expectations ? Usually lenses are shot on a beater so you can remove this condition. I think you should consider something more around $700-800 ish for a beater Crater frame and maybe $600-$650 ish for a standard Mars.. I got one Crater for $800 a year ago...

Indeed...I did. Now that I have a pair of Craters in hand I was hoping for a "really" bare bones pair to experiment with. The ones I have are in too good of shape and too darn nice to tinker with too much! A comment I recently heard was that given the nature and rarity of the Mars model line, real beaters don't seem to be there to speak of...which makes sense. In this bracket folks would tend to take good care of them.

That having been said, I need intel just like this to home in on reality. Good to know on all the amounts. Maybe at this stage I need to focus on a pair of standard Mars to tinker with...given your price estimates.

Fair points, well made! Thanks 🪖 👍

When I was doing wrapped craters we just used carpet tape to hold the wrap on vs the glue on the originals. Easy to remove. Wrapped several pairs multiple times.

I tired Gaffers Tape. Probably quite similar.

Not sure. Never used it, but the carpet tape was thin and easy manipulate, while being super sticky

Cool. Thanks for the tip. I’ll snag a roll and compare em. Looking to reengage with some croc and my Craters this week. From my first attempts it’s clear “thin” leather and a strong but removable adhesive that leaves no residue is the key to start…just gotta get rolling on that stitch pattern.

EDIT: Not enough coffee! Carpet tape is “double-sided tape, right? Sheesh. So simple…I was using gaffers as it’s really leaves zero residue but had to Barge glue the leather to it. If the carpet tape is thinner “This is the way.” 🪖👍
