Trying to source Half X rubbers

Its one of those parts that is expensive to produce, because it requires injection molding for a non-flat shape. The mold alone is usually $2000-$5000 plus ordering a minimum qty for the parts, you're looking at $4000-$7000 outlay for a single part that won't sell often. It would probably take a lifetime to recoup the costs.
So what is the solution? I'm still waiting for someone to let me know if any other earsocks will work. Half Wire? Penny? :)

Are you saying that for $6000 - $12000, I could potentially buy all of the needed equipment and materials to make Half X ear socks, and become a hero to the Half X community?

No,

That’s just the mold tooling (sourced in China)

You will also need an 80k used injection press, and probably 1 week of run time to dial in the process.

The better bet, is to spend $50k on a 3d scanner - get great digital files, and find a college with an Objet printer where they can dial in the durometer settings of the rubber that is 3d printed into this file.

Or find a college with said 3d printer and scanner and a sophomore in engineering willing to do the work for a Chipotle burrito … if you have the right equipment and know what you are doing this is a 1 hour job.

I don’t have this at my disposal, or I would already be doing it…

A rapid prototype shop could also do it… but it’s $1500 and you need “good rubber” to start with.

That make sense?
