Am i tripping or is the quality of Prizm and Prizm P really not that good

I got a pair of Oakley Drop Point with Prizm P lenses and i got them used so i went to check them and compared them to other models and they are 99% genuine.

I'm fairly new to wearing sunglasses especially polarized ones but i feel like Prizm is really nothing specially let alone particularly good.

I have some RayBan P glasses and when i turn my MacBook Air screen the Ray Bans will fully black out the screen i see nothing but with the Oakleys theres always at least around 7-15% of light coming through. I tested this with other models in a retail shop and it was always the same result.

Does this mean that the polarization is just not as good? Am I missing something? Also i think the marketing of Prizm glasses enhancing colors is really overstated. It's fairly average if you ask me.

What's everyones opinion about this here?

Would love to hear some thoughts on this, looking forward to you replies!

very interesting 🤔

need experts on that one

I believe it varies from lens to lens as well... I wear a wide variety of prizm lenses and some will make me have to turn my head sideways to read a screen and some not much at all. I think it might be influenced by the VLD rating of each with the lighter lenses having less effect on screens and such... just a theory but yes I have noticed this. I will say that I have Linegear lenses that do black out screens so it is quite possible Oakley dimmed them down in their formula. Honestly Polarization is just that and just about any will do what the true intent is which is to stop glare and bright light reflection. Looking at a screen does not "tell all" about the lenses polarization just that they are or are not.

I like DWP a lot, and have it in many of my frames. But can't stand the prizm sapphire polarized. Not sure why. Each is different and you won't know till you tried it.🤙

I believe that there are either 3or 4 different thicknesses of polarization for sunglasses. The thicker the layer the darker they appear regardless of actual tint. Imagine peering through 2” plantation style blinds vs peering through mini blinds. There was a big thing in the late 90’s and early 2000’s where people in the custom car scene would swap out their polarized filters on their lcd display in their cars. That is when I found out how it worked and handled different filters in person.

It really depends which colors you pick but liek others have mentioned some just don't work. I swap a few different ones between my Flaks. Deep water polorized I use when on the beach etc but often i dont prefer a polarized set.

So this is why you stand still for hours on end looking at your phone wearing your Katos?
