Intro + repair question

Greetings! Over the past couple years I've come to really appreciate Oakley's design identity and branding. In particular, many vintage Oakley products stylistically remind me of my childhood in the early 2000's.

I was fortunate enough to inherit the eye jackets shown below from a (much older) sibling. These have been my sole sunglasses for a couple years and, unfortunately, they were damaged during a recent flight. I spoke to an employee at my local Oakley store who turned out to be a proper Oakley enthusiast, an he recommended I create an account here. I'm hoping someone can provide some guidance to repair these orbitals - I already have a replacement orbital on the way, but I'd love to fix these originals if possible. In addition, said employee showed me an original pair of Minute 1.0's which I had not seen in person before. I'm looking forward to adding some to my collection and growing my appreciation (and inventory) for Oakley products as a whole.

Greetings.

Personally, I'd bin them, however there are members on here who would be able to better advise you. Bearing in mind it's a full break, which means extra stresses on the orbital, so not entirely sure I've seen anyone on here deal with this 'issue'.
All the best with your endevour, but I fear the worst.

Welcome,

It’s really unfortunate to hear that your beautiful Eye Jackets were damaged.

Compared to many of the members here, I’m still more of a newbie myself, but based on my experience repairing a few pairs over time —

The orbital area tends to take a lot of stress when lenses are removed or installed, so even if you manage to fix it, it often ends up breaking again quite easily.
Also, repairs usually leave visible marks, meaning that additional work like repainting may be necessary afterward.

Since you’ve already secured a replacement orbital, I’d personally recommend keeping the damaged one as a sentimental keepsake instead.

Enjoy your O-life!

I can understand the sentimentality but those orbitals are toast.
Glad you found a new orbital.
I'm guessing that's a original eye jacket with square hinges. You may consider looking for a "New Eye Jacket" in cobalt (what you have there) that was made in '98-'99 after Oakley changed the formula for the Omatter to make it stronger and less brittle.
Fact is, even the new orbital (if it's a original Eye Jacket) will be one side eye look away from cracking. In fact, I'd even be worried about snapping a ear stem when fitting them into the new orbital or cracking the orbital just inserting lenses. That's how brittle the old Omatter is.

Since those are Fuels, they were only available on the Initial Eye Jackets.
