New Generation Oakleys

I like my new gen Re:Subzeros, Plantaris, & encoders, i also liked my Romeos, eye jackets, & frogs (not the endless broken stems, but at least above & beyond warranties).

The old marketing was awesome......"future genesis" was so so cringy.

I was excited about M experiment, but so far just dozens of diff colors, on two variations of frog skins/wayfarers & same with the other two. No ones doing anything too exciting nowadays

Have patience with MEx... They are just now budding as a company and catching on. We would not have Frogskins had Jim not flown to Japan and got talked into it despite his distain for the idea but what sold him is they needed one simple model that everyone would buy to float the cash into the business which brought us the cooler stuff later and during. MEx business strategy has been slow and effective and as Jamin says... "We will release it when we are proud of it." I expect some real mind blowing stuff out of MEx because there is no one else like them in the industry. Probably cause Lux owns 80% of the industry.

I think the Oakley of today is in an re-awakening phase. We are getting some of the mad, outworldly designs in recent creations. The Plantaris is a great example. The Plazma had a similar vibe when it came out. The number of such releases is excruciatingly low but something is better than nothing.

Not always!

@pjd1234

I personally wear a lot of frames from the early days of O or whe. Lux took possession of O

After the initial few years they started to stall in innovative styles and options

I will say some of the new things they have brought in the recent years show the brand still has potential

Kato
Encoder
Plantaris
Lateralis
Plazma
Siphon
Sutro
Wiretap 2.0
Savitar

I do like the Ti offerings , I wish they would diversify in the metal frames more but I will take what I can get as they progress

What I would really like to see is a return of the Ice, Emerald and Classic Ruby lens offerings

I also agree on waiting to see what M’E does over the next few years as they grown the brand

Do they do what they know like the X Metals that many crave or innovation that is something new

I don’t buy many oakleys (not a collector) because they last so long and once I find a pair, I’ll take care of it until I can’t find lenses any longer (currently in this situation with the Latch Squared-gen 1 and M frame strike) as I’m particular with how they look and feel on my face. As long as they are still optically fantastic, and they don’t break (never had an Oakley frame snap or break, metal or plastic), Oakley will always be the first place I check for new sunglasses. When Oakley goes downhill (from this thread, seems they already started the slide…sadly, all good companies always will because profit goals eventually become unobtainable resulting in finding cheaper ways of manufacturing, using cheaper materials and letting go the experienced designers/techs/scientists/etc. to make their goals.), I’ll find something better.

Enjoy them while you can get em!

Do you find any sort of degradation in the quality of your older (say pre Lux) frames over time? I'm curious to know whether the older Oakley frames are somewhat buy it for life (ignoring the fact that the lenses will eventually degrade and you do your best to avoid accidentally sitting on them 🤣)

It’s hard to say really. I just returned the latest sapphire latch squared (too big) and a sapphire encode (too much blue in my eyewear line up- got the gold instead) . Quality wise, they seem to be made the same. The prizm lens are sharp and crystal clear. The same fit/finish. My M frames have been used for decades, countless times of bending the arms a little to clear my helmet straps. Only time will tell. As for buy it for life, if you take care of them (not sitting on them) my old oakleys have earned that title, at least in my experience.

Interesting to hear you say that quality wise it seems the same to you, perhaps this can vary more frame to frame. I have a few older frames (pre lux) that definitely feel better than some of the newer ones I have, but then again, some of the new ones also feel rock solid 🤷‍♂️
