Questions For Jim Jannard!

I was always wondering why Oakley never made swimming goggles or even just the lenses??...especially these type of eyewear can be embraced and endorsed by Olympic athletes. A water jacket swimming goggle would look awesome on Phelps along with his golds.

Speaking of athletes, how are the Red products being endorsed or showcased without the use of "athlete"?

Hello Jim,

It's great to have you here and thank you for letting us have the opportunity to talk to you directly and hear it all from the horses mouth as it were.

I am a big Frogskins fan, and the stories I heard was that, when these were being designed, you hated the idea of them and that it went against everything Oakley stood for. You even placed a bet they would fail. Is this true? What is the real story behind the creation of the Frogskins? A frame which has probably outsold every other model Oakley produced over the years?

Thanks,

Thank you for these answers Jim!

Going back to the X-Metals, we all know it was first released in 1997 but when did the idea of making the first prototype came about ? Like how long did it take to develop this precision masterpiece from its inception ?

Hello Jim and welcome to the forum! I was wondering if you knew how much, if any, infulence does Luxxotica have on Oakley? i.e. Do they have any say in design? Where things are manufactured? Thanks again for joining us collectors and I look foward to hearing all your stories and insight.

Thanks for joining us Jim! We're all honored to have you here! I'm pretty sure you're not going to be at liberty to answer this question, but I'll ask anyway, since it's been on a lot of minds around here lately. Do you have any insight on the recent globablization of manufacturing for most of the eyewear line? One of the key selling points for Oakley eyewear used to be that everything was made in the USA. Over the course of the past year or two, we have seen outsourcing for almost everything, resulting in many of the 2013 frames not even carrying the "Made in USA" imprint anymore. Some people around here are outraged over this, and some don't care; but I think the majority of us don't like this fact, but will live with it. Is this something that Lux has imposed corporatewide, or was Oakley already heading in this direction before the acquisition?

Hey Jim, in 2005 when you released the new women's line with the design guy that was only there a year or so (sorry, cant remember his name) there was a pair of boots in the catalog where the bottom was made like a Hollow Point shoe. Did the boot version ever go into production or was that a one off deal? The only reason I bring this up is I have a couple pairs of the Hollow Points and would love to have the matching boots. I know its an obscure question but that year's line was so different and cool, thought you just might remember.
