X-Metal replica perception/ thoughts

I’m gonna quote what someone else said, not word for word but this hobby isn’t for the weak pocketed so if you can’t afford the real deal then kick rocks.
Yeah I can understand that the price definitely holds an element to the clout associated with the community. What are your thoughts on other aftermarket companies providing lenses, screws, rubber, etc. to sustain the longevity of the hobby? would that also be sacrilege? I realize that the main element of community is the frame its self so maybe the appendages to that are considered less important...

I consider lenses, rubbers and couplers consumables. They wear out and need to be replaced.

I, on the other hand, consider screws, rubbers etc to be consumables: the lenses are the 'soul' of my sunglasses. So, if you're looking at doing lenses, they HAVE to be of the highest grade available. Like the X-Metal line and their technological pinnacle: there are no sunglasses, without the lenses.

It’s just my personal opinion, but if it’s not endorsed by Oakley and isn’t made by them, it’s not worth my time as a collector. That said, if you negotiate a licensing deal with them where you manufacture your own pairs but have their (paid) blessing, that could work for most collectors.

Other than that, fakes are a dangerous game for collectors to be on board with. As the years pass sometimes the knowledge gets lost regarding which ones are real and which ones are the fakes. Somebody newer to the hobby will inevitably be ripped off because of lack of experience. There are probably lots of collectors that have fake items in their collections but don’t know it just yet.
