Anodizing X-Metals by XMC optics

Hmm... I'm thinking this next piece will be Ti2Cu, specifically ;)

After the Ichiro Azul result in the last round the bar was set pretty high. When I first started thinking through this piece I wasn't looking to do a whole frame. I wanted to do something Ti02-ish but unique in its own way. Of course @InfiniteHero was confident he could nail the dark copper 'almost rust' color we were looking for, but I was unsure what part we would leave as the factory finish - the orbitals? or the arms and nose? Or would we do the arms and nose different colors? The final decision to do the nose and arms and leave the orbitals stock was mostly homage to the Ti02 and part logic in that the nose and an arm would be easier to recover and change to something else if we did not like the result.

We did the nose... good!
We did an arm... better!
We did the other arm... Wow!
and... STOP!

@InfiniteHero and I had discussed this piece in detail over many days so he knew exactly what I was looking for. When I got the frame back I assembled it with the intention of installing VR28Blk polars and Rootbeer rubbers. The direction on the rubbers changed quickly as the Rootbeer blended a lot - too much - and I wanted to provide more contrast for the arms and the nose to reflect the exceptional color. It was not until I went to reach for the VR28s that I saw the set of Ti-etched lenses I have had stashed for close to 2 years! I grabbed those and also a set of Ti polars, the 24K Juliet stock. I tried both and liked the Ti-etched a lot more not only for the color, as they matched the frame color better and were not as dark as the polars, but also just the fact they were non-polar. The non-polar was/is preferred since I can see myself wearing these in more formal, even 'dressy' situations - where the non-polar Ti's will be a better choice, less bright/direct light, etc... I think I could wear these just about anywhere with anything! A suit? A tie? A pair of shorts and sandals? I can see all of the above with these!!

Did I mention that the color turned out absolutely incredible? I have found myself looking at these a few times and I was not sure if these were actually copper, 'copper', or "copper", +/- a hint of rust. I am sure most of you can see what I mean. To me they look more "copper" than any "copper" X-Metal piece I have ever seen. I mean they look more like a natural metal than the copper Penny or the plated Juliets I have seen. Part of it might be the lack of clear - what you see is what it is - no more no less, no excessive shine. The shine that is there is more sincere, more like you would see on real metal and not some gloss coating on top. The Copper Penny always threw me off with the surface coating, and I found it to be a bit light in color. The color on this piece is the surface, period. There is no coating, no paint, no layer of clear. The polish is the factory polish and there is so much depth and saturation in the frame it is kind of surreal. Even when seen in the low light of indirect daylight the color shines through!

So there you have it. Personally this is another instant top-10 piece for me, all-inclusive, all-time... maybe top 5 :cool-20: - time will tell!! The pics begin to tell the story, but they really do not do it justice. This could have easily been one of the most popular releases of X-Metals, another 'Ti02'. It is really that stunning. You can see the depth and range of the color in the pics - now double that to get an idea for what you would see in person!! I am already looking forward to replicating this colorway on a Penny or R2. I think Gold lenses would look great... I may cut 24K lenses for my XX 24K style Penny, to match the 24K XX, and move the Gold lenses from that pair into the into the Penny. I'd also like to see this on an X Squared, but those do not fit me well so if anyone has a Polished X Squared they would like to have done please reach out to @InfiniteHero / XMC optics and make it happen!

Hi MJLSr, which oem model is the lenses in this pair from? Its not from the 24k juliets are they coz I remember those have a polarized etching?

ok... been reading the thread, liking what i saw... one question... is it preferable to send a polished frame? like for example i want to send in a polished juliet to be done in gold and will be also send a plasma juliet... so would it be -- polished with give like a shiny gold look? plasma will have like a matte gold look?
