Mr JJ...

I have wondered on occasion, was there ever an idea you had that you just could not figure out how to produce or bring to market for one reason or another? Sort of a White Whale type idea that you tought of many times, but it just never materialized... If there was, a brief explanation of why it didnt happen would be interesting as well...
The only reason an idea wouldn't have been made was that it was a good enough idea. We made everything we thought was interesting no matter how hard it was. X Metal is a good example. We were told there was absolutely no way to cast a long skinny ear stem out of Ti. So we bought a gold club factory in Nevada and converted it to Ti. We had no idea how to solve the problem when we bought the factory. We just figured it out. Building a camera from scratch was a much bigger challenge.

I figured your answer would be along those lines, but I had to ask because I feel if there were something that never made it out of your head so to speak it would have been something spectacular. But then again you and your people gave us so many spectacular items already it gave me pause to think that there might be something you didnt attempt and accomplish... Not many of us can say we have such a track record, you must already know but I would like to say that your intestinal fortitude is a huge part of the reason that many of us became fans of the products you were producing. There are three things in life I can think of that I remember the first time I saw them... 1. My Wife... 2. My First Car and 3. Oakley Blades...

Thank you Sir...
Del

I'm watching NASCAR right now and was just thinking........are all the drivers that wear oakleys sponsored by oakley?

Hey Jim, would you possibly be able to elaborate on the "crate" Mars that were randomly found at FHR years ago? Here's a link to the original thread where I asked the question and there's an article within there that mentions this.

These were called Crater Mars. The holes were for stitching the leather Mars but looked pretty cool with holes and without leather. Pretty easy stuff. Jim

I think Batwolf is asking is how did you guys make so many "crate"(not crater) mars and not sell them?

thats a very good question. the most obvious ones eg. JPM #42, T.Stewart #14, have some sort of endorsement deals going on i would think bcos if their signature glasses. the other guys im not sure. you see a few of them wearing the race suits, and gloves, so i would think these are supplied to them as opposed to being sponsored. jim could shed some light on this? there was a time when the entire HRT (Holden Race Team) in V8 Supercars in australia, was sponsored by oakley. when i say entire, every member of the team from top to bottom were given oakleys, teeth shoes and the like.

Yeah I was wanting to hear about how random crates of Mars were discovered at HQ after years of sitting around.

The article mentions that some employees "stumbled upon them" in the warehouse.

As a billionaire why not throw some cash around and make the new improved Oakley, new name and all , maybe even "anonymous" owner. f**k Lux and every other thing you are apart off in regards to sunglasses at this point in time. Imagine what you did when you had limits, what can happen with no limits
