What do you think is a "real" Oakley Collector?

To me, I have no problem with flippers. It’s all about describing the product correctly. Flippers tend to over exaggerate condition In order to sell more quickly or at a higher price.

Another reason flippers tend to get beat up about is they go get good deals from underneath people who would otherwise collect that item.

For instance, an ad goes up in my local area for an R1 at $100. I think, hot damn, I’m gonna get that and wear it. Suddenly, its sold. Later, I find out someone contacted the seller and offered $200...then I see the same frame for sale on OF or eBay for $600. Now, I can’t get that deal and may not have the option to get an R1 in my collection. (I can’t afford $600, but can afford $100)
The "flip" side of people buying and selling (pardon the pun) is that at least they give people the opportunity to actually buy stuff. It may be at a premium price, but AT LEAST I CAN have the chance to buy!!! What's the point of knowing that an R1 went for $100 if it was purchased by a collector who will never sell to you? I don't care what people bought stuff for or how long they had it. It could be 5 seconds of ownership for all I care. All I care about is whether I think the price they are selling for is worth it to ME!

And that's what annoys me. Collectors criticise flipper #1's R1 because they say it's only worth $400. But then those very same collectors would NEVER sell any of their R1s for that price!!!

You kinda need to know what your collecting to be a true collector, so ya! AND if you have to take pics of you sale items on top of your "other collection" to show them off that gets douche points.
I thought that douche points were only awarded in the WOAYWT thread for white frames.

Well I agree and disagree. There are flippers that buy and post for sale before it's even in their hand so it's 100% clear that they got a deal and they KNOW they can make money on it.

The satisfaction of knowing a fellow collector got a really good deal on a frame and will probably cherish it for a long, long time...

Or knowing that your buddy got that deal and is going to pass it along to you for that killer price.
This and this! Some people enjoy helping others out and do it without making money.

So someone that just buys up other people’s collections and parts them out and has no clue what anything is isn’t a collector right?
They know enough to know that they're Oakleys and worth a bit more than they paid for them!!!! Then they cherry pick the ones they want to keep for themselves e.g. Ichiros or low serialled Mars and sell the rest off to people like me, who otherwise wouldn't normally have a chance to get some moderately priced stuff if they were bought by a "normal" collector who just hoards/trades for stuff mere mortals normally own.

Maybe I'm easily satisfied, but most people would be grateful to get the chance to buy a $90 complete mag switch, a $140 hammerstem juliet or a $400 complete crater, not to mention the freebies.
